They Need Your Help Now: Leavenworth County Humane Society
Imagine being completely alone. Separated from anyone you ever loved. Maybe even hurt or sick. You might be cold, wet, dirty. It's scary, isn't it?
That's what we see every day. Dogs and cats who have lost their way. Some have even been left to fend for themselves. Sometimes, they can't even open their eyes, much less find food, water and shelter for themselves.
We take them in, treat their wounds, free them of parasites. We get them the veterinary care they need. We keep them safe and comfortable. We play. We heal their hearts.
Whenever possible, we reunite them with their people. Seeing a dog wiggle with joy when he hears his person's voice brings immeasurable joy.
Saying "farewell" to a dog or cat being adopted by a loving family is a win for everyone, a cause for celebration.
Since our founding in 1885, Leavenworth County Humane Society has been caring for dogs and cats who are lost, abandoned, neglected, abused or unwanted. Sometimes in foster homes, sometimes in a shelter. For nearly all these past 140 years, Leavenworth County Humane Society has been caring and delivering on our promise.
It's hard, dirty, exhausting work, not for the faint of heart. Our staff is small but devoted. We rely a lot on volunteers, too. Three shifts a day, every single day.
Our leadership is energized and innovative. Our Fundraising Committee is on fire! We're launching a new program for area businesses to make them partners in the life-saving, too.
What REALLY makes the magic happen is you. Every single dollar and every single donor makes a tremendous difference. We are humbled by your trust in us, and grateful for your gifts. Over and over again, you make it possible to keep the doors open, the power and water on, and all the other bills paid.
Each and every month, our average expenses are about $45,000, if nothing breaks and costs don't rise.
Once again, right now, we need your help more than ever to deliver on our promise to the pets in our care. Whether by a monthly commitment or a one time gift, any amount will help keep us serving the people and pets of Leavenworth County. We won't quit, but we can't do it without you. We're in this together.

It's not fun for us to have to ask over and over, and ask the same people again and again. We do it for the ones who can't care for themselves. They didn't ask to be lost or left behind, or even to be in a shelter. They deserve all our support.
Please reach out to those you love and give them an extra pat, an extra scratch behind the ears, an extra treat or toss of the ball for us. Remember those who shared your life who aren't still close by except in spirit, and smile.
