Let’s be honest.
What’s happening in Boston—especially in Lynn, Chelsea, Everett, and Revere—isn’t just about enforcing laws.
It’s about targeting Latinos.
About fear. About intimidation. About going after one community in particular.
People are being taken from their homes.
Arrested on their way to work.
Deported—quietly, quickly, without cause.
And not because of crimes.
Just for going to work. Dropping off their kids at school. Buying groceries.
We’re talking about people with no criminal record.
People who’ve been here for years.
Who pay taxes. Raise families. Keep this city running.
The person who packs your groceries.
The man repairing the sidewalk you walk on every morning.
The mom who stands next to you at school pick-up.
The delivery driver who’s left packages at your door.
They’re not strangers.
They’re your neighbors.
And their children...
Some are taken with them.
Others wake up in homes that feel suddenly broken.
Some just watch—from classrooms, walking home from school, or holding their mother’s hand—
carrying the fear of seeing another kid disappear overnight.
Because even if they’re safe, they see what’s happening.
No child should have to grow up with that kind of fear.
And in the middle of all this, it gives me hope to know that some people are already doing something about it.
There are people and organizations who’ve been helping for years—quietly, consistently, and with heart.
And now more than ever, they could use a little help themselves.
Like many others, Latinos Unidos de Massachusetts (LUMA) is one of them.
They connect families with legal support. Write letters.
Even help cover legal fees when families can’t afford it.
They accompany people to court and ICE check-ins.
Follow up on each case so no one has to face this alone.
They’re doing their best to track every person detained—case by case—so no one gets forgotten.
They lead peaceful protests, build protection networks, and make sure people know their rights.
I’ve heard about cases like Mr. Barreras and Mr. Reyes—both arrested without a criminal record, right here in Lynn and Chelsea.
Because of LUMA, they didn’t go through it alone.
And there are many others like them.
This isn’t just news.
It’s someone’s life changing forever.
A family broken in seconds.
A child’s world shattered.
