Lakota People's Law Project
About Lakota People's Law Project
Sacred Defense Fund is a new Native-led nonprofit dedicated to protecting the lands, waters, and communities of Turtle Island. Sacred Defense Fund uses media storytelling, legal advocacy, and community organizing to fight for Indigenous sovereignty and environmental justice. Our team is a collective of traditional knowledge keepers and practitioners, lawyers and advocates, and filmmakers dedicated to the strengthening of Native sovereign rights and cultural ways. Sacred Defense Fund operates two initiatives: the Lakota People's Law Project, which advocates for environmental and social justice on behalf of the Lakota People and Indigenous relatives; and the Native American Youth Organization (NAYO), which facilitates leadership development for Indigenous high school and college students.
