About LOTH:
Laborers of the Harvest (LOTH) is a nonprofit dedicated to rescuing edible surplus food and turning it into essential meals for those facing food insecurity in Kern County, California. 80% of the food we recover is fresh, providing a healthy, dignified option for those who need it most.
Why We Need Your Support:
- $55 Donation = 100 Meals: Every $55 you give helps us provide 100 meals at no cost to local organizations that distribute them.
- Expanding Our Impact: Your support will help launch our new HANDS ON HEALTH program to raise awareness about healthy food choices among low-income and unhoused residents, with materials in both English and Spanish.
- Keeping our market open: Your support will help cover storage costs for recovered food to continue our Open Harvest market program, which is at risk due to overhead costs!
Our Mission & Programs:
- Edible Food Recovery: We rescue unsold food from grocery stores, farms, and other food establishments across Kern, Fresno, and Tulare Counties, at no cost to the food generators.
- Food Redistribution: We partner with local organizations to deliver these recovered foods to those in need, at no cost to the organizations or those they serve.
- Open Harvest Program: Our market offers a dignified shopping experience where clients can choose fresh, nutritious foods for just 43 cents per meal. No one is turned away—there are no questions asked, ensuring everyone leaves with the food they need. Between 9/4/24 and 10/2/24, Open Harvest will be FREE for all who walk through our doors. Help us keep this community staple open!
LOTH is a lifeline for around 15,000 people each year, many of whom rely on our services regularly. Your donation will help cover our costs of food recovery, food storage, running the Open Harvest program and launching Hands On Health to reach even more households.
