Make Edgehill into a Community Asset
Edgehill is Spuyten Duyvil's only registered historic landmark. Help the Kingsbridge Historical Society make it an asset for the community. Concerts, presentations, exhibits, and performances are all possible right here.
But the building is 135 years old and it needs help:
- It does not have a heating system.
- It takes water during rain storms.
- It badly needs a coat of paint.
- Its Tiffany Studios windows need to be preserved and protected.
These are the high priority problems that we need to fix before Edgehill can live up to its potential as a neighborhood hub. The building needs your help before the building can help the community. So, please give what you can.
For a little background....
Edgehill Church of Spuyten Duyvil was built in 1888-1889. Its construction was funded by the congregation of Riverdale Presbyterian Church with a lot of help from Isaac G. Johnson, who operated a large iron foundry on Spuyten Duyvil. For many decades the building provided for its congregation while serving the neighborhood as a place for concerts, lectures, performances, exhibits, and events for kids. Its heavy stone base, marvellous woodwork, and beautiful Tiffany Studios windows led its congregation to seek landmark status and it was obtained in 1980. But the congregation dwindled in recent years and in 2022 ownership of Edgehill was transferred to the Kingsbridge Historical Society . The Society has been active in our area since 1949. It provides free presentations and walking tours about the remarkable history of Kingsbridge, Riverdale, Spuyten Duyvil, Marble Hill, and Inwood.
