Kingman's Healing Hooves

Kingman’s Healing Hooves is a 501c(3) Equine Assisted Therapeutic Facility, that helps our community through their team of 13 specially trained horses that aid in our many therapeutic programs for individuals with physical, emotional, and/or mental disabilities. The facility also teaches able riders about horses, husbandry, how to work as a partner through our horsemanship lessons, and has outreach programs that bring the horses to local schools for educational classes. KHH is run by Kassie and Lindsey Schuerr, who have volunteered their services and expertise to help the community since 2010, despite both having rare genetic conditions and Lindsey being physically disabled as well. They started Kingman's Healing Hooves to help others who are neglected by the medical community or can’t afford the therapy they need, as that has been their personal experience the past 15 years when trying to get Lindsey adequate care for her type 3 & 4 Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and Paroxysmal Dystonia. Kassie works tirelessly in her free time to write grants (such as one in the linked video) to cover the cost of therapy sessions for our veterans and other therapy riders, as well as the low-income families interested in learning how to work with horses. She does this so the families can receive the treatment they need and give lessons to those interested in learning horsemanship despite their financial situation, all at no cost to the rider.

Residing in a rural area in Northwestern Arizona, we are subjected to extreme weather conditions that either make working with horses unsafe, or factors like high wind and temperatures over 100°F make it difficult for some of our riders to receive their weekly therapy sessions due to overstimulation or heat intolerances. Our facility is open year-round despite the weather limiting the time available to provide services. Even when the weather isn’t suitable for lessons, Kassie and Lindsey still utilize that time to train the horses, so our equine team is ready for our clients and are always safe to ride in high winds or any sudden changing weather conditions that may occur. Kassie continues to work a full-time job outside of the barn, since all funds received go directly to horse care and facility maintenance. Kingman’s Healing Hooves is bursting at its seams and has utilized every inch of their current facility to house our 13 equine partners, a hitching area with a small tack shed, a covered seating area for parents to watch their kid's lesson, a ramp and hoist system for our wheel chair dependant riders to mount the horses, and an arena space for lessons.

This Go Fund Me is a way to raise money to not only expand the facility to build an indoor arena/barn, but to hopefully raise enough to where Kassie can work full time at the barn to be able to provide to the long list of clients needing services. They both have given so much by volunteering their time to run KHH 7 days a week since 2010, and they continue to give all they can to their community without ever asking for anything in return. It would be nice to give back to them a little by raising funds to build the indoor arena they have been dreaming of since starting the therapeutic facility in 2010, and to hopefully bring in enough funding to provide a salary for Kassie so she no longer needs to work at Home Depot. We know that our goal for this fundraiser is quite ambitious; KHH’s facility has been bursting at the seams for over 10 years now and is long overdue for an expansion to accommodate the ever-growing needs of our community.
