On Friday May 16th local animal control brought a severely emaciated pit bull into the vet clinic I work at. His owners had moved and left him locked in their apartment to fend for himself. No one knows how long he'd been there but we were told he was probably days from death. Anger and sadness permeated our practice. To see pictures of him is startling but to see him in real life is absolutely shocking. So weak he couldn't stand from starvation and flea anemia he actually improved dramatically by the next day. Sadly on Sunday morning his condition took a turn for the worst and we knew the only way to save him was to get him somewhere that he could get more intensive care. He came back to us after several days of intensive treatment at Upstate Veterinary Specialties in Latham NY where the amazing Dr's and compassionate staff literally saved his life with a blood transfusion and 24/7 care. They loved him so much they gave him his middle name! Unfortunately that type of life saving care is not cheap but this dog with the sweet personality won over everyone he met and we just couldn't let him die. We are a small foster based rescue and the $6000 it cost to save him has depleted our funds. He is by no means totally out of the woods yet but has been moved to a foster home where he is receiving much love and great care and continues to slowly improve.
