Hi Friends,
My name is Lou, and I started Kindness Farm. The farm was born out of a dream for a kinder world.
As a 501c3 nonprofit farm in Portland, Oregon we:
- Grow healthy fruits & vegetables for our underprivileged homeless & low income neighbors.
- Use & teach sustainable, regenerative farming practices to nourish & heal the Earth.
- Support community activism on behalf of the food insecure.
Kindness is the natural instinct in all of us to take care of each other, and our planet; which we believe is distorted by a world that force us to choose our own survival over helping others.
We can change that. But we can only do it together.
There are different ways each of us can contribute, but every drop in the bucket counts and every single one MATTERS and makes a difference.
The funds raised in this fundraiser will directly allow us to:
- Cover operational costs for the farm (crucial, and difficult to cover with grants)
- Purchase tools and materials still needed to both grow and harvest produce for those most vulnerable
- Enable more outreach and programming to provide regenerative education to low-income members of our community, and general community.
- Enable us to create more partnerships with other organizations to create more food gardens for those in need!
We are so humbled and grateful by any contribution you are able to make. It truly means the world to the farm and to allow us to continue doing this important work.

This mission is so important for two reasons:
1. Houseless and low-income individuals & families often don't have easy access to freshly harvested, healthy, nutrient-dense fruits & vegetables. Processed foods are much cheaper and easier to acquire, however, they do not provide the nutritional and holistic benefit of eating freshly harvested produce, which can have a significant impact on one's entire life; including one's mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
2. Regenerative gardening & farming practices are still not widely adopted, & their benefits not fully understood, amongst gardeners & the general population. Many modern practices are destructive and damage the Earth that sustains us and gives us life.
Many amazing businesses have contributed to this fundraiser with wonderful items that will be raffled. To be entered in the raffle:

We've received tremendous community support since starting the farm:
- We're at over 1000 volunteer hours since January 1st, 2021.
- Many of the materials we've needed to start the farm, including land, have been generously donated.
- We've partnered with several local food-justice organizations to amplify all of our work.
- We've worked to help other organizations to create garden programs to grow food for their newly-housed / low-income residents.
- We've had many organizations, schools, and programs come out to volunteer.
- We have 2 internship programs, one with Native American Adults who would like to start farms.
- We've received some great press coverage (see below).

Our biggest need now is community support in the form of financial contributions, and we're so grateful for any contribution you are able to make.
