Help Farida Get New Arms
The phrase "your attitude is your altitude" sums up Farida. After losing both of her arms when she was just a toddler, Farida, now 18 has gone on to become top of her class and get a full scholarship to a private high school. After spending most of her life without arms, Farida now has an opportunity to get two prosthetic arms from the best-in-class Limb Lab in Minneapolis and we need your help making this a reality.
Background:
Farida was born in the Southern Highlands of Tanzania, in a farming community with her mother and two siblings. When she was just two years old, a pig entered the hut she shared with her mother and two siblings and attacked her arms and face while she was asleep. She was rushed to a local mission hospital, where they were able to save her life, but they had to perform a double amputation where she lost both of her arms (one from the elbow down, the other a few inches from the shoulder).
Five years later, Farida came to KidzCare Africa to live full-time at their Kerege children’s home. That is when I had the privilege of meeting her. And let me tell you, this girl is the most positive, passionate, and dedicated person you will meet. She blended in with the other kids as soon as she joined. And at just 7 you could see her drawing under the mango tree in the courtyard, playing soccer in the local field, building sandcastles on the beach, or tackling her math homework with the most fervor I have ever seen from a first-grader.
Over the past 11 years, Farida has been a consistent A-student. She just graduated middle school with the highest honors and is now attending her first year of High School at Baobab Secondary School on full scholarship. She has her sights set on going to law school, and if you have ever met Farida --- you know she will do anything she puts her mind to.
New Arms:
Farida has overcome more obstacles in her first years of life than most people do in a lifetime. Now, she has a life-changing opportunity to get use of her arms for the first time in 16 years. The Limb Lab in Minneapolis, partnered with The Aqualia Foundation is helping bring her to the US to give her use of her arms for the first time in 16 years. These prosthetic arms will be getting fitted for her first-ever prosthetic arms.
Now, we just need your help to raise the final amount needed. Any donation will be instrumental in helping make this dream come true.
Donation:
This remaining amount ($30,000) will help meet the final balance needed for her prosthetics, physical therapy, and any additional costs around Farida’s trip to Minneapolis in June 2021, and for her reoccurring bi-annual visits).
