Ann Arbor Buddhist Center Landscaping Project
For more than 40 years, the Ann Arbor KTC Tibetan Buddhist Meditation Center has joyfully served our local community, providing it with traditional Buddhist teachings, meditation, and spirituality. As we continue to grow, we want to enhance our ability to offer a safe space of peace and love by redesigning our exterior landscape. Since our entry is in the back of the building, we have significant traffic through our yard. Please help us make our center as beautiful on the outside as it is on the inside!
Through generous donations we already have a detailed site plan and survey. We are now raising money for tree trimming, a new fence, new shed, and a stone walkway. When these are completed, we will put in new plantings and a tranquility corner. As much as possible, we are getting the work done by local companies who share our dedication to helping improve our community. When it comes to new plantings and finishing touches, we will be able to do much of the work ourselves.
Here are some "before" and "after" pictures to give you an idea of the project, and below that is the site plan:
Our old fence is worn and unstable, and in some places only consists of wires. The new fence will have a matching archway and a screen for waste container storage alongside the building.

The old shed was built 30 years ago by members out of found materials. We plan to get a new wooden shed in the other corner and create a tranquility area in place of the old shed.

We also need a good walkway that can be shoveled and has proper drainage. We plan to remove the old bushes, fill in an unused window well, and create an attractive and safe walk out of natural bluestone.
Our vision for the finished project is elegantly illustrated in the plan that award-winning landscape designer Serge van der Voo created for us. Based on our shady location with overhanging black walnut trees (known for toxicity to plants within their root zone), Serge has selected a variety of shrubs and flowers that should thrive without extra watering.
