Juniors Place of Hope: Aid Autistic Children in
My name is Henrietta, a widow with a 34-year-old son with autism. I usually visit my home country, Sierra Leone, in West Africa with my son, Junior. On those visits, I see children and young adults with autism roaming the streets begging for food. Most times, they are met with verbal and physical abuse because people think they are crazy or contagious.
In 2018, we opened a day program where children and young adults with autism and other special needs can spend the day in a structured and supportive environment. Because these individuals come from very poor homes, all services provided to them are free of charge.
We provide free bus service that picks up and drops off students, two meals a day, life skills training, academic teaching, social skills, and vocational skills.
To prevent the students from going back on the streets during the summer breaks, we provide rice and provisions for them, which they collect from the school every two weeks. The majority of the students have improved greatly since we opened the school, and we would like to continue helping more students if we can get more support from people.
We don’t have any donor or donors who provide financial support, with the exception of family and friends that occasionally support us.
We are pleading for your support to keep providing the needed support to children with special needs.
