Please Help Dora Recover From Building Fire
At 1:30 am on Thursday November 19th, a fire started in a 3rd floor apartment of a 5 story building in Harlem. Dora heard a neighbor crying for help, called 911 and alerted her neighbors before getting out via the fire escape. Unfortunately, she could not release the ladder, and Dora was forced to jump from the second story to escape the blaze.
Dora was lucky. Three of her neighbors died from smoke inhalation, including a mother and her 4 year old child. Even so, Dora is still struggling with the emotional and physical toll of the fire, her minor injuries from the jump, and ongoing upper respiratory issues which as a singer make the building unsafe for her. She would like to leave the building permanently and find a new home.
On behalf of Dora, the Judson community has created this campaign to support her during this very difficult time. Your tax-deductible donation to Judson will be designated for Dora, to help her recover from this terrible event, and help her move forward on her path of a more safe, healthy, and stable living situation.
We thank you for your generosity and care during this very difficult time.
With gratitude,
Judson Memorial Church
