It is an unprecedented time for sure. Many millions are currently out of work or may be soon. To make things even more difficult, some of those individuals and families are struggling with a major medical illness such as cancer.

We are challenging you to shave a "COHAWK" to show your unity in this fight. It can be as drastic or as subtle as you choose! If you are up for the challenge and shave a cohawk, we ask that you memorialize your new style with a small donation here. Then send your picture and this link to challenge others you know to do the same.

If today is not the day for a new hairdo, we ask that you still recognize those that went the extra mile.  Donate any amount you feel acknowledges their commitment in helping to raise awareness for those families in need. Just because you don't feel a cohawk is right for you, doesn't mean you can't challenge your friends & family! 

The money raised from this challenge will go to benefit the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, a leading non-profit that unfortunately has been forced to cancel many events amidst the current COVID-19 outbreak. This organization is one that my family and I chose to help following my own cancer diagnosis and treatment. I was lucky enough to have the resources and support of my wife, friends, family, and my company through my treatment, but that is not the case for many cancer patients. The Joe Andruzzi Foundation is there to provide some relief to those individuals.

Welcome to the CoviDistance Triathlon!  A fundraiser for the Joe Andruzzi Foundation, which provides assistance to families in financial hardship due to a cancer diagnosis.  This CoviDistancing-compliant triathlon is an ultra-short distance: 240 meter swim, 6 mile bike ride, and 1 mile run. While comparable to a teenager triathlon, the CoviDistance triathlon is perfect for the “Big Fat Guy” (hint: offensive linemen) on the couch to strive for.

On Saturday, April 25th, at 10 am Eastern, I’ll be “competing” in this triathlon!  Sponsor me!  I’m blessed to have all the equipment I need: a pool, a Peloton Bike, and a Peloton Tread.  The course layout, with estimated times, below.  This will be livestreamed on Twitch. 

09:50 - 10:00: Pre-triathlon pep talk from Fitzy!
10:00 - 10:09 : 12 laps of a 10 meter pool.
10:09 - 10:14 : Location change to the bike.
10:14 - 10:32 : 6 mi bike (Peloton Scenic Ride, Olympic National Park, Resistance 45)
10:32 - 10:35 : Equipment change to the treadmill
10:35 - 10:46 : 1 mile run (Peloton Scenic Run, Sliding Sands Trail, 0% incline)
10:46 - 11:00 : Finish line celebration with local Team JAF representative (by proxy, probably just my family)

About Me
I'm not what you'd consider a serious athlete: I have asthma, and I'm often more likely to injure myself (I've had tears in my Achilles (running), rotator cuff (swimming), and ulnar collateral ligament (basketball), and broken my toe (karate) and elbow (cycling)) when I start exercising than anything else.  My greatest athletic claim to fame is having a pass intercepted by Tom Brady (really!).  I've never been in a triathlon.

But my wife grew up watching the Boston Marathon from the sidelines, and it isn't happening this year.  So I'm going to do my first ever tiny triathlon, so she has a charity runner/swimmer/cyclist to cheer on, and you can support this couch potato's exercise while making a difference in the lives of cancer patients in financial hardship!

Another November brings another year of mustaches around the office in an effort to raise funds and awareness for men’s health.  The Eagle Mo’s are back with Mustaches for a Cause!  This year the team will be raising funds to donate to the Joe Andruzzi Foundation.  The team will be holding multiple different donation opportunities throughout the month in an effort to reach our goal of $8,000.  All donations in any amount are greatly appreciated by the team!

The Newburyport Marinas team has decided to participate in a Movember challenge to raise money and awareness for men's health issues with a focus on Cancer. 

What is Movember you ask? Movember is a charity event encouraging the growth of mustaches for the month of November.  The goal is to literally change the face of men's health issues.  Some of our staff members will be participating in the event and we are encouraging our guests to participate as well.

Who will this fundraiser benefit? 
All of the donations collected during this event will go directly to the Joe Andruzzi Foundation.  Here is a little more information on the foundation:

The Joe Andruzzi Foundation Story
Jen and Joe Andruzzi were active locally during Joe’s football career with the New England Patriots. That included visiting patients to lift their spirits. Meeting a young man named C.J. Buckley a month after he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor touched their hearts in an unusual way. C.J. and his family became extended family members to the Andruzzis and his passing left a hole in their hearts. In 2003, the Andruzzis started the C.J. Buckley Brain Cancer Research Fund at Children’s Hospital Boston years before battling cancer became personal.

On May 30, 2007, Joe was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s Burkitt’s lymphoma, predicted to double in size within 24 hours. He had an aggressive chemotherapy treatment over several months both at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Joe fought the disease with strength
and courage helped by the support of his own family, the Buckley family, friends, doctors and nurses by his side. Thankfully, Joe was told that there was no sign of cancer in his body by the fall of 2007 and remains cured today.

“I know first-hand how much your daily routine changes during and following cancer treatment,” said Joe Andruzzi. “Please team up with me in helping others.”

“We fought the toughest fight of our lives and are grateful that Joe is living cancer free,” said Jen Andruzzi.
