Help end violence and reduce recidivism by supporting Jericho Circle's emotional healing work with incarcerated individuals and returning citizens.
During our weekly circles and weekend intensives, inside participants and community volunteers partner together to surface and address the unresolved emotional issues that give rise to violence and criminal behavior. Working within powerful group “containers,” we hold space for participants to safely process strong emotions (rage, grief, self-hatred, fear, despair, etc.) for which they have no other outlet. We support participants in exploring the early life roots of these emotions (e.g., childhood abuse or neglect), healing wounds to their sense of self, and discovering the self-worth and inner gifts needed to support meaningful rehabilitation. We also offer leadership development and facilitation training for qualified inside participants, so they can co-lead circles with us during their incarceration and then serve as “credible messengers” to other justice-involved individuals upon their release.
Data from the Massachusetts DOC shows that from 2010-2018, participants in Jericho Circle at MCI-Norfolk who were released from prison had a 44% lower rate of new crimes committed within the first three years after their release vs. the state average. This is a strong figure which reflects the power of our work over the long term.
Jericho Circle is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit organization. It is a peer-facilitated program and is not psychotherapy or religious in nature. Our work draws on mindfulness practice, Jungian psychology, emotional group process work, non-sectarian spirituality, and tribal ritual. Individuals from all walks of life (both inside and outside of prison) are welcome in our circles. No prior experience is required, only a willingness to show up, be authentic, dig deep, and hold space for other participants.
