                                     Feed the beards!  

A group of us From Center Moriches High School and Middle School have agreed to a 100-day shaving strike to raise money for Island Harvest, Long Island's largest food bank.  Most of our local food pantries receive the majority of their food donations from Island Harvest and organizations like it.

Here's the problem:
- Approximately 283,700 people on Long Island receive emergency food each year – that’s 64,900 people every week.
- 39 percent of Long Islanders who receive emergency food are children under 18 years old.
- Children who are hungry are more likely than their peers to experience behavioral issues, reduced ability to learn social skills and impaired cognitive learning – even permanent brain damage.
Sponsor us per day or make a flat donation.
- Approximately 70 percent of those who are hungry on Long Island are from minority populations who face education, language and employment barriers.  (Source: Long Island Cares http://www.licares.org/)

Sorry for the delay in getting the update.  Here we are after three weeks.  We've got about 75 days to go!  And we found one of our lost beard-growers, so now we've got Brian's photo to add.   Keep sharing and keep the donations coming to help feed Long Island families.
