•Quran Classes are held every Tuesday, from 6.30 pm - 7.30 pm. The focus is on memorization and recitation.
•Coffee and Converts is held on the first Thursday of every month, from 6.30 pm – 7.30 pm. This is an opportunity to dig deeper into Islam.
•American Seerah Project will be held on November 9th from 9.00 am – 2.00 pm. Featuring speakers Jonathon Brown, Sherman Jackson, Asma Sayeed, Ahmad Soboh, Jihad Brown, Salaam Al-Maryati, Gasser Hathout & Asifa Qureshi.

How are we Promoting Unity?
•Faith at the Table on November 6th from 6.30 pm – 8.30 pm.  The Guibord Center - Religion Inside Out and Brave New Films invite you to join us for a vegan meal and screening of 40 Strangers, 50 Questions.
•Celebrating our Diversity & Humanity Walkathon on November 17th from 9.00 am – 3.00 pm. Let's walk together toward a brighter future! We are inviting our local schools, religious organizations, and civic engagement leaders to come together and walk for our shared humanity. 
•Neighborhood Block Party & Open Mosque Day will be on November 3rd from 2.00 pm - 4.00 pm.


How are we Serving Our Community?
•Financial support is provided for the poor and needy 3 times a month. There is an application process for this before Friday prayers. Common requests include support needed for rent, jobs, food coupons and financial assistance to those suffering hardship.
•Food Pantry is every Saturday from 10.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The majority of the recipients are local and elderly people in need of food.
•Mental Health Services are provided for our community. There was a successful pilot program in 2018, since then the Center has been providing these services including therapy. There is a sliding scale based on poverty guidelines.

ENGAGE, EXPAND & ENHANCE
The Islamic Center of Southern California was established 65 years ago. This year, we have intensified our community-based outreach, added one more satellite location and beautified our center. In order to successfully succeed in our mission this year we need your generous donations! PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR ISLAMIC CENTER TODAY!


ENGAGE: Community Based Outreach
The Islamic Center of Southern California has geared its programming efforts towards interfaith collaborations, mental health awareness, expanded religious and family-oriented Sunday Programs, growing our food pantry and a refugee assistance initiative.
• We continue to foster interfaith and community relations with important events like our recent Open Mosque Day Festival.
• Through our Safe Spaces (mental health) program, we are able to provide free professional counseling services to over 100 individuals.
• In addition to our ongoing classes and Sunday Program, the Center also organizes other activities such as hikes, basketball tournaments and yoga class.
• The ICSC food pantry has grown to serve 160 people/week, feeding over 2000 people/month.
• Our refugee assistance initiative has organized the collection of school supplies and clothing for local refugee children.


EXPAND: Satellite Locations
We have two successful satellites in Santa Monica and Pasadena. This past April, we opened our Pasadena location. 
• In addition to the Center on Vermont, Jum'a prayer services are offered weekly at our two satellite locations in Santa Monica and Pasadena.
• Our Family Night programs are expanding to include youth and adult lectures, classes, potluck dinners and other fun family activities.
• We plan to open additional satellite locations.



ENHANCE: Center Beautification
We have recently begun a beautification initiative at our center.
• Our Lecture Hall has received a facelift with a fresh coat of paint and new carpeting.
• A variety of drought resistant succulents have been planted to brighten up the entrance.
• The non-slip outdoor threading on our entrance stairs has been replaced.
• We are preparing for more renovations in the Lecture Hall, the remodeling of staff offices and a new tent for our food pantry.

This year, we ask you to join us as we choose to celebrate the Islamic Center's achievements in the face of adversity. As we reflect back on 2016, we are grateful for the challenges that our community has faced because they have in fact strengthened us. We couldn't have accomplished so much without your support, the dedication of our staff and the guidance of our leadership.

- When our Center was threatened, our community leaders came together and created a Security Task Force to increase active security personnel on the premises and develop a comprehensive safety plan for years to come.

- When the freedoms of our Muslim brothers and sisters were publicly challenged, our interfaith friends showed up on our doorstep to support us with flowers, sweets, and messages of love.

- When hate mail was received at the ICSC and mosques in seven states across the country, the FBI and law enforcement officials chose to hold a press conference at the Islamic Center and discuss their ongoing investigation.

Thank you for all that you have done in 2016 to redefine our narrative and to maintain the forward trajectory of our Center.

At our Center
- The ICSC Board elected its first female chairperson, Ms. Hedab Tarifi.
- 400 people attended our Labor Day Picnic at Griffith Park (Hosted by our newly established Social Services Committee).
- Nia Malika Dixon was recently hired as our new part-time Youth Coordinator.
- We celebrated our first year with our Communications Coordinator, Kristen Stangas.


With our Interfaith Friends
- We stood shoulder-to-shoulder with our Muslim, Jewish, and Christian brothers and sisters in our mile-long walk, "March in the Path of the Prophet Abraham."
- Seventy faith leaders from across L.A. chose to host "Sacred Resistance and Sanctuary" at the ICSC to discuss engagement and action strategies for the days ahead.
- Our enriching Open Mosque Day program gave us another opportunity to meet and reconnect with our neighbors and interfaith partners.

With our Civic Leaders
- California Attorney General Kamala Harris, L.A. Mayor Eric Garcetti, and L.A. Sheriff Jim McDonnell all spoke at our Eid Prayer services.
- LAPD Chief Mike Downing has frequented our Center to meet our members and discuss safety measures with our community. He attended our New Horizon Town Hall meeting and met with parents to address the violent threats made toward the ICSC.

We are incredibly blessed to have you - our positive, resilient members who are committed to ensuring the Islamic Center is our spiritual home for today, tomorrow and years to come.

So, as 2016 comes to a close, we humbly ask you to open your hearts and pocketbooks and DONATE generously to the Islamic Center.

With your contributions, we plan to develop fresh, new programs like Family Fun Night and Elders events. We will also put a special emphasis on our interfaith and community initiatives as we enter into a new era of American history. And finally, we have started working on plans to make improvements to our building. In our efforts to keep our community safe, we have determined that it is time to upgrade our security system and install an automatic gate in our driveway.
