Hello and Namaste!
I’m Srishti Vaidya, a Board of Directors of Canopy Nepal, a role I took on almost three years ago. But, my journey with Canopy began in 2018 when I met Mohit Rauniyar, the founder, a fellow Shaper, and my dear friend. I still remember our conversation about the development space in Nepal and how passionate Mohit was about talking about the solutions, and actually acting upon them. Mohit has a dream to build something that will make education more accessible and improve its quality for Nepali children, and he is doing just that with Canopy Nepal.
Today, Canopy Nepal is working to bridge the educational gap in Nepal. Canopy has worked with over 20,000 students across 215 schools, providing scholarships, introducing storytelling as a teaching tool, and running skill-based workshops and counseling programs. These programs support children from underprivileged backgrounds who, without Canopy, might never see the inside of a classroom. Canopy believes every child has the potential to thrive if given the right resources, mentorship, and opportunities.
Now, I’m raising $5,000 to support Canopy further expand its work to students who are disadvantaged because of their gender, ethnicity, or location. Your support will directly fund their:
- Scholarship Program where children on the verge of dropping out are supported to continue their education and equipped with skills to secure a job to break their family’s generational poverty cycle, and
- Storytelling Program where students get access to world-class resources to enhance their creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression skills through personal stories.
Canopy’s programs are multi-faceted and go beyond traditional education – the team is committed to building students' confidence, resilience, and practical skills, preparing them for meaningful futures. Their impact is already visible – in schools they work with, student attendance has increased by 17.5%, academic performance has improved by 6.7%, and self-expression abilities have soared by 77.4%.
Every single rupee/ dollar raised will bring us one step closer to ensuring no child in Nepal is denied an education because of their socio-economic background. Canopy Nepal ensures full transparency and will ensure to update every donor on the progress they make with the funds.
As a fellow lover of books and the founder of the Kathmandu Book Club, I wholeheartedly believe that education has the power to change lives, and together, we can make that change happen. Thank you for considering supporting Canopy and for believing in the dream that every child deserves a fair chance to learn and thrive.
