Our classmate, Brooke Aldendifer MacLean, lost her son, Lochlan MacLean, to Metastatic Osteosarcoma August 14th, 2023. While most of us will outlive our parents, it's hard to imagine anything more devastating than the loss of a child. We share a bond as a class having gone through CK sharing those formative years together at that "moment" in time. For this reason, we think it's important to support Brooke and acknowledge her son as a class.

In his short 22 years, Brooke's son, Lochlan, was an accomplished thespian, growing up in Lake Forest, Illinois. After his diagnosis, he fought bravely for two years, even with the odds against him, having lost most of his arm in the process, and enduring countless rounds of chemo. He was finally well enough to start college as a Freshman at the University of Minnesota this past year where he was able to perform. The MacLean's visited Lochlan for his performance of Cymbeline April 30th, and according to Brooke, "He was ecstatic to be back on stage where he and his cast rocked/crushed/aced/knocked it out of the park with their performances."

Lochlan celebrated his 22nd birthday May 3rd before returning home May 19th and finding shortly thereafter that the PET scan showed the cancer returned more aggressively and was unresponsive to chemo. Lochlan was able to enjoy being with his siblings who were home from school and his parents before passing peacefully August 14th.

We would like to make a collective donation in his memory, as a show of class support. Brooke and her family have designated two organizations for donations: The Lochlan MacLean "Theatre Stuff" Endowment at Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan where Lochlan pursued theatre during the summer. (The other is Lurie Children's Hospital Oncology Group in Chicago.) Please join us in honoring Lochlan. A small donation of any amount is appreciated. All are welcome to donate.
