Humane Society of Clark County

The Humane Society of Clark County in Arkadelphia, Arkansas was hit by a massive surprise flood in the middle of the night on July 15th. Tropical Depression Barry brought 6 inches of rain which devastated this small town shelter.

Staff and volunteers arrived early in the morning to find 1 puppy had drowned as a result of the torrential downpour. The other 150+ cats and dogs on property were found wandering around cold, wet, and confused.

The small community showed its strength all coming together to help emergency foster 72 displaced dogs.  Staff and volunteers rushed to clean up an area for the cats and kittens to remain on property.

Almost all of their donated food and supplies were destroyed.

This small community animal shelter is now gathering resources to rebuild and restock what was lost. Any amount is not too small to go towards the funds needed to clean, restock items such as medical supplies, food, litter, bedding, and more.

Hello Friends!   As many of you know I joined a charity fitness group (My Peak Challenge) that encourages it’s members to pick great challenges for themselves each year, while also raising money for blood cancer research, treatments, and support for those fighting this awful disease. In 2018 I ran my first sprint triathalon, and loved the challenge so much a month later I did 2/3 of a second one.  For my challenge in 2019 I'M GOING BIG!!!  I will be running my first full marathon on Jekyll Island, Georgia on January 20, 2019.  My goal is not only to bring awareness to those fighting blood cancers, but also to raise $5,000 of desperately needed funds for a fantastic animal rescue organization called the Humane Society of Clark County, based out of Arkadelphia, Arkansas, a small city in south Arkansas where I have done veterinary work over the last year and a half.  I saw the great need for animal welfare organizations in that community and witnessed how hard HSCC has worked to make a difference there.    
 
Currently, there is a severe overpopulation of cats and dogs in Clark County, Arkansas.  The animal shelter is over capacity and cannot accept any more animals at this time.  HSCC currently have over 120 cats/kittens and over 50 dogs/puppies under their roof.  They receive phone calls daily about animals that are stray and/or needing to be surrendered and they have to turn them away because there aren’t enough funds to care for the animals.   That’s where we come in.  I’m going to run 26.2 grueling miles (with a nearly herniated disc, but don't worry my neurosurgeon said it's fine) on a beautiful FLAT barrier island off the coast of Georgia in order to raise money and awareness about HSCC.
