Hello, my name is Cait and I am an overall dog lover but I specialize is loving French Bulldogs. LOL. Meet "Soufflé" a darling Frenchie I am fostering for the Hudson Valley Humane Society. Soufflé was abandoned in the parking lot of a NYS park and was taken to the HVHS for his safety. Soufflé was examined by a veterinarian and diagnosed with a heart murmur which requires on-going medication and frequent follow up veterinary care. Although he received AMAZING veterinary care, the cost to the HVHS was over $1k! HVHS is not a funded shelter and they rely on donations to keep going and continue care for the animals. The staff at the shelter is amazing in providing necessary care (including medical care) and they provide immediate and necessary shelter and medical care to animals in need. I hope that the dog-loving community appreciates what the HVHS has done for Soufflé (and many others), I know we do!! Join Me in Supporting Our Furry Friends: New York City Marathon Charity Run to benefit the Hudson Valley Humane Society

Hello!

I am writing to share some exciting news and to invite you to join me in a meaningful endeavor. As you may know, I'm training for the 2024 New York City Marathon on November 3. This marathon is not just a personal challenge for me, but also an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of animals in need.

I am thrilled to be running in support of the Hudson Valley Humane Society (click the link to learn more). This organization has been doing incredible work rescuing and caring for animals who are abandoned, neglected, or in need of medical attention. They provide a safe haven for these animals and work tirelessly to find them loving, forever homes. Running this course on behalf of animal welfare speaks for those who are voiceless.

About the Hudson Valley Humane Society:

The HVHS was incorporated in 1891 and is celebrating 133 years of world-class animal welfare services to the community. This organization is a true "no-kill", full-service animal welfare group caring for abused, abandoned and unwanted animals. Additionally, they have 4 NYS Peace Officers who investigate crimes against animals; with full police powers they investigate, arrest and prosecute those individual(s) responsible.

This dog was dumped on the street and left to fend for herself. She was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital and they called the Hudson Valley Humane Society. Emergency cases like this break my heart which is why I am personally grateful that the Hudson Valley Humane Society exists to help animals. Any donation will help make an impact. If you knew Pat McCallum, you know that the only thing he loved as much as comic books (possibly more) was cats. He always had a soft spot for the little furry guys.

Early in my career, I shared a house with Pat and a few other co-workers from Wizard Magazine. Pat came with 3 instant-roommates, though. The acrobatic-yet-always-petrified Broccoli, the more-more-dough-than-fur Muffin, and the most-evil-and-vicious-little-black-cat-you-will-ever-meet Pee Wee Soup. Each had their own very distinct personality and each was treated with equal love by Pat.

We may have lost Pat, but I'd love to keep his memory alive by raising money for the Hudson Valley Humane SPCA. It's the local humane society and if we can help make this world a little more comfortable for even just one cat, I know it would've meant the world to Pat.

Dear Friends,

Please help us identify those who may have been responsible for this dog’s suffering.

On April 7, 2022, he was posted on Facebook as a stray, sleeping in a stairwell in Spring Valley, NY, but he was gone when the police arrived. A few weeks later, on April 27, 2022, he was discovered by a contractor hired to work at a vacant house. The HVHS Humane Law Enforcement was called, and we immediately responded. The dog, a neutered male, red and cream adult Husky was found almost unresponsive by our HLE Officer, who seized the dog and rushed him to a veterinarian. We learned that the ownership of the house had changed; the house was in deplorable conditions and vacant except for this dog. He was found closed inside this house, where it is believed he spent at least 14 days between the initial post as a stray until the day the HVHS was notified. It is estimated he was without food for this period, and his only water source was a single toilet that had barely any water remaining when we arrived. We were skeptical he would survive his severely depleted condition. He was also suffering from a raging case of sarcoptic mange, which is contagious, and he tested positive for Lyme disease. With around-the-clock intensive care from our personnel, he has turned the corner, and we are now optimistic for his future. We anticipate he will remain in the care, custody and control of the HVHS for at least 4-6 months.

Last week a young boy made the mistake of riding his motorized bicycle with his cat on his shoulder and decided to ride on a busy road. The cat became afraid and jumped off, next thing the cat ran into a storm drain. The storm drain goes for quite a distance and merges with other drains; luckily there was no rain in the forecast. The cat was so scared it went more than 30' into the drain system. The next day a team of responders were dispatched and determined the cat was still in the drain system and, alive! That is the picture you see taken with an underground camera. The cat was taken to an emergency veterinary hospital for care and is now quarantined at our facility for a minimum of 10 days.
