In Memory of RJ: Support for Hope Squad
My Little Brother RJ passed away on 12/20/24
most people saw my brother as nothing more than an unhoused addict on the streets of the otherwise perfect city of Portland Me. While he was those things, he was so much more to so many people. Hope Squad helps people like my brother RJ feel seen, loved and helps them find resources.
Matt founded the organization and has loved my brother even on his worst days.
RJ had been in and out of the hospital a lot in the last year with a bacterial infection that eventually took his life.
Matt would come to the hospital and read to him and spend time with him. Bring him a Mt. Dew & some Reese’s.
In RJs last hours many of the volunteers from Hope Squad came to visit in the hospital, they cried with me, told me how much they loved my brother. Shared beautiful memories of his humor and love of popsicles.
For this alone, I am forever grateful. My lil bro had a family I never knew about and people who truly loved and cared for him.
I am raising money for them not only for this, but for the gut wrenching reality that hit our family. After someone passes the end of life care, and the funeral/cremation cost money, most families of the unhoused just don’t have.
Matt and his organization stepped in and helped me in a time where money was the furthest thing from my mind. I want to give back to them and I hope that you can help me.
