Home Fur-Ever

This is an extreme call for help. The vet we use has been sold. They will no longer see any of our rescue dogs until we pay down at least half the current bill which over 8 grand. We have a dog that still needs to undergo heartworm treatment as well as a dog that needs a mass removed. Sadly, until the bill gets paid down, they won't be able to receive the care they need. HFE has been around since 2001. We used to be 1 of the largest rescues in the city. Over the years, more and more rescues have opened (and closed), resulting in way less donations and foster homes. Don't get us wrong, the more reputable rescues, the better. The city definitely needs help with the stray/breeding epidemic, but it has been financially devastating for HFE. We may have to close the doors after almost 25 years if we can't raise the funds to pay half the vet bill down. Being involved in rescue has always been hard financially and mentally. The past few years have been devastating trying to keep the doors open. Unfortunately, this may be the straw that breaks the camels back for HFE. Today we celebrate Marilyn's birthday.  Not only do we celebrate her birthday, but we also celebrate 18 years of being a non profit rescuing dogs.   Over those 18 years over 10,000 dogs got a second chance all because one day Marilyn decided she was going to dedicate her life to the ones with no voice. 

It certainly hasn't been easy over the years.   Many rescues have popped up over the years and have come and gone.  HFE has been a constant for 18 years even in the worst of times.   When you operate a non profit rescue, you rely on volunteers, foster homes and donations.    It takes a special kind of person to volunteer their time to help animals, welcome dogs into their homes, fall in love with them, only to eventually adopt them to their furever families.    

A few years ago, Marilyn was diagnosed with breast cancer.   She didn't for one second ever entertain the idea of closing down the rescue to focus on her health and recovery.   Instead, while she was receiving Chemo drips, she would be on her phone coordinating rescuing dogs.   

HFE recently received one of its biggest blows that we fear we may not be able to overcome.   The vet we use was sold and we recently received a letter stating our vet bill must be paid in 90 days or they will no longer be able to extend their services to our dogs.   We totally understand their reasoning but coming up with $22,000 is an impossible feat for us as a non profit.   Today we humbly ask you to help Marilyn continue to live her passion of saving animals by donating so HFE can pay off the current balance at our vet.   No donation is to small and they are tax deductible.    Thank you for all of your support over the years, we hope we can continue our mission to help save those who need us most.   Closing the doors at HFE would be devastating for Marilyn and all her volunteers.

HFE was contacted to help Sweet Emmy who suffered some type of injury causing her to become paralyzed in her back legs. She has an appt today with the neurologist who already recommended and MRI. Today's consultation is $435 and the MRI is was quoted as $2500. If you are in any position to donate to help Emmy, your donation is tax deductible and 100% of your donation goes to the dogs. Luka is a sweet, gentle giant. He is a Cane Corso mix who is approximately 5 years old. He obviously has had a difficult life but hasn't let that diminish his spirit or love for people. Found as a stray in Detroit, he is heartworm positive, has pressure calluses on all of his joints, and several concerning masses which will eventually need to be removed and biopsied. First things first is getting him through the heartworm treatment as he tested very high for heartworm. That alone is an expensive process.
