Hi, I’m Sydney Rettig a transfer representative of the Student Government here at Western Kentucky University , and I’m excited to support HIVE, Inc. A remarkable organization dedicated to enriching the lives of people with developmental disabilities and those who care for them, In the Bowling Green area. Our nonprofit was impacted by the tornado that swept through Kentucky on December 11th, 2021. This natural disaster devastated hundreds of our community’s local structures, caused casualties, and forced people to evacuate their homes.

We are located on 31 W Bypass where so many local businesses were nearly destroyed.

Our beloved clubhouse still stands but it took a hit from the storm and it’s going to take time and money to make it safe and homey again. In the meantime, we will continue to work hard to serve our members and families, and we must have the funds to carry out our programming while our clubhouse is being repaired.

The Hive, Inc. houses a number of programs that connect people with intellectual and developmental disabilities with opportunities, each other, and the community they live in. Our clubhouse is the hub of all the work that we do and a learning and recreational sanctuary for our members. Many refer to it as their “home away from home” and are heartbroken that it got damaged and worried that we won’t be able to go back.

During the pandemic, we were forced to improvise to keep our friends engaged and connected and we will improvise again to get us through this challenge but we need your help.

The Hive does not bill for services and receives no government funding. We rely entirely on the generosity of those who believe in what we do, and small grants to fund what our staff of 3 provides to 7 KY counties and 2 counties in TN.

Please help us continue to work for our families and repair the clubhouse they love. It is for them that we need your help.
