This 6-week fundraising effort will raise money for Hispaniola Mountain Ministries to serve their annual Christmas meals to people in the Dominican Republic, Haiti, and Cuba. Serving meals to the people in these countries provides an opportunity to share the Gospel with those who might not otherwise hear it and to connect them with local pastors and churches who can continue building relationships. 

Last year, HMM served over 4500 meals in 12 villages in 3 countries and saw over 200 people give their life to Christ. The goal for this year is to raise a minimum of $10,000. There is a $1 to $1 match for monies raised up to $5,000. We want to exceed this goal of $10,000 so that HMM can serve more meals and share the Gospel with more people this year.  The more you give, the more we can feed!

In these countries, the needs are basic and essential to life. It’s easy for us to overlook the need around the holidays because we are so busy. Our plea is for those with abundance to open their eyes to the need and answer the call by providing for people who have little.

For many of our Dominican and Haitian neighbors, however, the question about food and meals is likely "IF?"

HMM needs YOUR help with the Christmas Meals program. Last year,over 5,000 people were fed - and we hope to provide a warm,filling meal with a message of HOPE to even more of our Dominican and Haitian neighbors this year!

Steve Wren, an HMM volunteer from Jackson, Miss., had the opportunity to serve meals in Santa Elena and the Cassandra communities (around the HMM compound in the DR) in 2012. A member of Highland Colony Baptist Church (Jackson, Miss.), Wren has traveled with HMM many times and helped serve meals through other ministries, but last year's Christmas Meals program was special for him.

"No matter how many times you've fed someone who is truly hungry, you never really accept the notion that you've done all you can do for that person. It's literally the most joyous thing to share some food and a lot of love with somebody, who for the life of them, doesn't really know YET why we're there," says Wren.

"Now take that feeling and mix it with the one that sets in after you've left them....the one that wonders where will they be getting their next food from and you can never erase either feeling. It's why we go back."

Yoselin Acosta, wife of Michael Acosta, has been experiencing abdominal pain for several weeks. She has undergone a series of tests that revealed a mass on the outside of her stomach as well as an ulcer. She is currently taking medicine to provide relief from the pain and discomfort of these issues, likely faces surgery in the next few weeks.

To assist Michael and Yoselin in securing the best possible treatment and alleviate any added stress from the financial burden of these health-related issues, HMM is inviting the HMM community to partner with us to gift the Acostas with some much-needed financial assistance during this difficult time.

On December 6, the first team will arrrive on the island to serve our Haitian neighbors, and on December 10, a second team will arrive to serve in the Dominican Republic. What a special Christmas gift they will bring to our neighbors! We want to be 100% funded for the Christmas Meals Ministry by November 15 so that all the necessary preparations can be made.

It's finally here! After two years of dreaming and planning - and many long days of sweating and construction - our first teams will be staying at the HMM Haiti Compound in February! While we are closing in on completion, we'd love YOUR help with the last few
essentials:the little touches and necessities that will make our Compound feel like HOME!

A few things we (REALLY!) need are pots and pans, silverware, plates, cups, bedding and towels. Rather than incur the additional expense of shipping these items, we'd like to raise the money in the U.S. and purchase these items in the Dominican Republic or Haiti.

HMM is a non-profit organization based in Jackson, Miss., committed to caring for and ministering to the people of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. As one of the most resource-poor areas of the world, the need for water, food, clothing and other basic life necessities is great. HMM works to meet these basic needs while also providing access to medical and dental care. Through these often life-saving ministries, teams are giving the opportunity to share the love of Christ and bring a message of HOPE and encouragement.
