Highlands Community Charter School

Highlands  Community Charter and Technical School (HCCTS) has nearly 4,000 students; 70% of HCCTS students are female; 90% earn below the Federal Poverty Line; our students hail from 90 different countries speaking 40 different languages.  A significant number our female students are refugees from Iraq and Afghanistan and many are widows because they or their husbands fought alongside or supported United States military forces during U.S. actions and one or the other paid the ultimate price.

Please join the Doc Smith Legacy Foundation in raising funds to provide holiday grocery gift cards and children's gifts to the in-need students of HCCTS.  HCCTS is the largest adult-serving charter school on the west coast providing no cost High School and English Language Instruction. HCCTS is a diverse community for social justice, serving the unserved, providing access to education, technology, communication, and employment for 21st-century achievers while building new legacies leading to self-sufficiency and generational change.

Christmas time already? Seriously, what the Elf?

For the past four years, Highlands Community Charter School has provided a taste of the holiday spirit to our students and their children. This year is no different.  We want to ensure that every student is receiving at least one holiday gift this year.  With these gift bags, we are spreading joy and goodwill, and we hope to do it with your support!

Every fall Highlands Community Charter and Technical Schools takes great pride in providing backpacks stocked with school supplies for the children of our students that attend one of our 31 school sites. 

Even in this trying time of COVID-19, students will likely return to school in some form or function. We know that not all parents can afford even the simplest school supplies to assist their child in being prepared for school.

Our target goal for this school year is 1,200 student backpacks. We are seeking community donations to assist us with the purchase of both the backpacks and the materials included.

All donations are tax-deductible and all donors will receive both a certificate of appreciation as well as a sponsorship highlight on our Highlands Community Charter and Technical Schools website and Facebook page.  We thank you for your generosity and appreciate your willingness to support the youth of our community.

Highlands Community Charter School (HCCS) is a high school which serves adults over the age of 22 in the Sacramento area. There are many challenges for our student population as they attempt to improve their lives while attending our school, especially during the holiday season. Some of these challenges and obstacles may include transportation, childcare, lack of food and shelter, not to mention gifts for under the tree.

At HCCS, we enjoy supporting our students, but we need YOUR HELP! Many of our students are low income and can't afford buying gifts for their children.

HCCS staff with the support of TLK Foundation has decided to have our students and their children participate in a Winter Festival event, December 8, 2017. BUT, to make this event successful, we need monetary donations.

How will donations be used?
**After we receive donations, HCCS will purchase gift cards, family games, canned food, cupcake mixes, socks, and blankets.
**All HCCS students (1500+), will receive a family basket at the Winter Festival event that includes all of the above items.
