The mission of the Highlander Boxing Club is to prevent and/or intervene early in youth gang violence and its associated problems such as school drop-out and drug/alcohol use. This is achieved through a comprehensive, multi-disciplinary mentoring program that uses volunteer adults as coaches that engage at- risk youth (boys and girls) 9 through 26in fitness training, life skills development, boxing for stress relief, youth empowerment and developing personal responsibilities. All of the young people in the program are from low-income neighborhoods in Highland. The volunteer coaches are from law enforcement, former athletes or former boxers that have been vetted by the program.
