Helping Overpopulation of Pets End, Inc

It started with a simple plea for help. Someone had cats, lots of them, at an animal sanctuary on Tilloo Cay in the Bahamas: it was decimated by Hurricane Dorian.  Despite the heat, the lack of veterinary care, the lack of food and shelter,  these cats and their hero on the ground there kept going. Then there was a second plea for help: another group of cats, stranded, without resources, on Marsh Harbour.  We did not know how many, we did not know when, we did not know how, but we knew we would not lose HOPE and we would get these cats.  HOPE is small but mighty- No matter how many cats there would be, we would take them on, no questions asked.   A generous benefactor offered use of a plane, but the logistics of getting in and out of the Bahamas were harrowing, there were boat rides and car rides that needed to be facilitated in order to get these cats to the tarmac.  The weather was bad several times, we could not use that plane, and several boat attempts were thwarted due to the tropical storms and depressions in the area.  Flights got canceled one after the other, but we did not lose HOPE.   It all came together though, and last night, not knowing how many cats to expect-anywhere from 30 to 100-  we welcomed 55 precious survivors from the Bahamas.

 Getting these cats here was the result of people working together, shepherding them to safety.  Now we need your help. These precious cats will be under quarantine for two weeks. Any funds raised will go towards their vaccinations, healthcare, food and ultimately their adoptions to wonderful homes. It took “a village”

More information about Helping Overpopulation of Pets End, Inc: Our Mission Helping Overpopulation of Pets End (HOPE), is here to educate the public about the problem and put an end to unwanted animals in Brevard County Florida. Too many animals are euthanized in the shelters in Brevard County. We assist low income residents of Brevard County FL with low cost/no cost spay/neuter, TNR, and emergency vet care. We foster animals in order to help abandoned, homeless, and stray animals find permanent and loving homes. We educate all people on proper pet care.

Jelly Bean - a 3 week old kitten turned into the shelter with a broken leg, rescue needed by close time or euthanasia would be only option
Ruger - a 1 1/2 yr old cat with a severe leg wound, a friendly ear tip that could never be placed up for adoption.
Melinda - a 5 week old kitten born in the shelter, moved into isolation room due to eye infection, whole litter at risk of euthanasia as a result.
There's been 19 other cats in the past several weeks that have been saved as well!

H.O.P.E. is a non profit rescue located in Brevard County Florida. H.O.P.E. is currently trying to pull as many cats as we can out of the local county high kill shelters, in particular the isolation rooms. In these shelters once a cat enters the Isolation room, it can never be returned to the adoption floor again. Since the public cannot view the Isolation room, these cats are doomed unless a rescue can pull them out.

H.O.P.E. is starting a facility to be able to treat and recover these cats prior to putting them up for adoption. it will be all volunteer run, so all donations go directly to the cats care.

H.O.P.E. is pulling as many cats out of the isolation room as possible, as quickly as we can. These cats usually need to be medicated, need to be fixed, vaccinated, tested for feline leukemia and aids, fecal tested for parasites, and sometimes these cats need major surgeries. We have pulled cats needed enucleation (eye removal), leg amputations, legs pinned, and many other major surgeries. We try to keep pulling no matter what, to save these cats life, as without us they will die. Now we need your help in order to continue to do this.
