Helping Hands for the Disabled of NYC

Hi, I’m Wesley Ham, and I'm reaching out to you to support Helping Hands for the Disabled of NYC.

I survived an incomplete spinal cord injury resulting from a bicycle crash that initially left me paralyzed from the chest down. Thanks to surgery, therapy, a loving family, health insurance, community support, employment and hard work—I learned to walk again, ride a bike and to recover much of my life.

On August 18th 2025, I’ll be riding 100 miles in Prospect Park in Brooklyn to mark the three year anniversary of my injury, celebrate my recovery and to raise money and awareness for disabled New Yorkers.

Many disabled New Yorkers don’t have access to the same resources I had. And many survivors of traumatic injuries or illnesses have difficulty with everyday life activities; such as running errands, reading their mail, going shopping, or just taking a walk at will. That’s why I’m raising funds for Helping Hands for the Disabled of NYC, a grassroots nonprofit that empowers people with significant disabilities by:

Helping Hands for the Disabled of NYC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing essential services to individuals in our community since 1982. From transportation to medical appointments, grocery shopping, and even reading mail to the visually impaired, we strive to make a positive impact in the lives of those around us. Due to the lack of available volunteers during the day, we need to pay our helpers. Your donation today can help our members of HHD of NYC receive the appropriate assistance as we strive to aid and encourage them to connect to more social services available within their community.

Another one of our most important initiatives within HHD of NYC is our food pantry program, which now provides fresh produce and other essential items to those who cannot access them otherwise. However, we aim to expand this program to include more than just basic necessities.
