Help in Suffering (HIS), is a comprehensive animal welfare organisation based in Jaipur, India, and registered as a nonprofit in the United States to connect with kindred souls worldwide.
Since 1980, HIS has been a source of hope for India’s community animals : stray dogs, cats, cows, monkeys ,camels and birds, who share our streets and skies, we rescue, treat and rehabilitate . HIS rescues more than 20,000 animals annually .
The focus of our fundraiser is on the 250–300 injured birds—pigeons, peacocks, eagles, parrots, and owls, that arrive at our shelter each month. During the Kite Flying festival in India this number surges to 500–700 birds in just two days, many wounded by kite strings or weakened by urban hazards. These birds, integral to India’s vibrant ecosystems and cultural heritage, deserve a sanctuary where they can heal and soar again.
Why This Matters
In India, community animals are everywhere, coexisting with people in bustling cities and quiet villages. Birds, in particular, face immense challenges: collisions with buildings, entanglement in wires, and injuries from human activities. The sheer number of birds in need overwhelms our current resources. Our existing bird enclosure, though functional, lacks the space, sunlight, and calm environment necessary for proper rehabilitation. The growing volume of cases, thousands of birds annually, demands a better solution. By relocating our bird enclosure to a rooftop sanctuary, we can meet this urgent need, providing a space that supports healing and prepares birds for release back into the wild.
Our Vision: A Rooftop Sanctuary
We are raising funds to relocate and redesign our bird enclosure on the rooftop of one of a suitable building in our shelter . This new sanctuary will transform how we care for the injured birds:
- A Natural Healing Environment: The elevated rooftop will offer sunlight and fresh air , with nearby trees creating a sense of safety for the recovering birds.
- Space for Recovery: Ample room will allow birds to fly, stretch, and exercise, rebuilding strength for their return to the wild.
- Stress-Free Haven: Away from ground-level noise and urban chaos, the serene setting will reduce stress, speeding up recovery.
- Species-Specific Care: Tailored zones will address the unique needs of diverse species, from social parrots to solitary eagles.
- Enriched Lives: Perches, foraging areas, and social interaction will stimulate natural behaviors, nurturing both body and spirit.

- Construction Costs: Building a spacious, secure enclosure with roofing, netting, and perches.
- Environmental Enhancements: Adding natural elements like branches, foraging areas, and shading to mimic wild habitats.
- Species-Specific Zones: Creating dedicated areas to ensure comfort and recovery for each bird type.
- Ongoing Care: Supporting veterinary treatment, food, and staff training to sustain the enclosure.
