Save Hubert: Donate for His Life-Saving Surgery
Former E-lister Hubert needs our help!
As some of you may recall, our rescue saved a sweet senior from the euthanasia list last September. Hubert found himself with a deadline due to having a variety of health concerns that the shelter believed would be better assessed outside of the shelter environment under the care of a rescue.
When the perfect foster (with immeasurable experience with senior dogs) stepped up to foster him, we were quick to place him with her.
After weeks of working with our veterinarian to help him get healthy and feeling better, Hubert was finally able to settle into his new life outside of the shelter - in a loving foster home.
After a slew of health concerns coming up (including a seizure), our rescue made the difficult decision to label Hubert a hospice dog. We knew being fully transparent with prospective adopters meant less people would be open to adopting him but we were grateful that his foster would keep him as long as it took to find his forever family - no matter how much time he had left.
Months went by and we began to lose hope that Hubert’s forever family was out there. We began to think he’d be a forever foster - which was the next best thing given how amazing his foster was. She loved him as one of her own so Hubert really knew what it meant to be loved.
As fate would have it, Hubert’s foster was so enamored with this sweet little senior that she didn’t want him to have a forever foster home. Instead, he deserved a forever home and his foster decided to make it official being that he’d been “home” all along.
While it’s been a bit of a roller coaster with his health, his momma received some difficult news this past week. Hubert has cancer. Despite the earth shattering news, Hubert is putting on a brave face and has been a rock for his momma.
Regardless of his condition, he remains bright and happy. Still, his condition remains very serious and his life is now on the line. Again. You see, Hubert has cancer on his genitals. Hubert’s vet said he’s got two options: surgery that’ll involve a partial amputation of his penis (which is a costly surgery)… or… euthanasia.
Hubert’s momma has done everything she could to provide a happy, loving life for him. Given how much pep he’s got left in his step, his momma knows this isn’t the end for him. Not if it were up to him. This sweet senior with a strong spirit is a fighter. And this isn’t a fight he’ll lose because his momma wants to simply throw in the towel to avoid a costly surgery.
Once a dog is saved and eventually adopted through our rescue, the relationship doesn’t end there. Once an HOI dog, always an HOI dog. Even though Hubert has found his forever home, our rescue is still committed to helping him. However, given the cost of the surgery and our rescue spending so many funds on boarding dogs - we’d like to reach out to you: our community, supporters, family, and friends. Who can help donate towards Hubert’s surgery?
