Throughout this tumultuous year, you’ve stood firmly with the most vulnerable members of our community – families living with the fear of hunger and the threat of being uprooted from their homes and workplaces and sent into an uncertain future.

We’re asking you to keep standing with them.

This Giving Tuesday, we’ve set the goal of raising $7,500 to support three urgent areas of our work:

Keeping Families Fed

Billions have been cut from food assistance programs – your gift ensures that no one in Waltham goes hungry.

Opening the Healthy Waltham Community Market

With our new Community Market, families will shop with dignity — and our pantry will have stability without the threat of closure or displacement.

Sustaining and Expanding Food Delivery Services

When families living in fear of ICE cannot come to the pantry, our delivery program is their lifeline.

Food insecurity continues to be an urgent problem in Waltham and Healthy Waltham is the city's largest distributor of free food to vulnerable families. At our twice-monthly pantries we distribute more than 40,000 pounds of food to over 600 families – and we see the faces behind the statistics. Diego, a regular visitor to our pantry recently told our staff, “The pantry helps the people who need it most. It helps us provide for our families when there is not a lot of work. Rent is so expensive these days. This place is a blessing. It helps my family a lot.”

The residents of Waltham and beyond have always been so generous with their support for their neighbors in need. And we can’t sustain our pantry operations without your help!

Your contribution to our Giving Tuesday GoFundMe will enable Healthy Waltham to continue its invaluable service supporting our Waltham neighbors facing hardship. As a nonprofit, we rely on the support of donors like you!

Your donation will also help us complete the Healthy Waltham Community Market! This new pantry model (and Healthy Waltham’s first “forever home”!) will do Waltham proud! It will allow us to move our pantry operations indoors, away from the harsh days of excessive sun, rain and snow. Pantry visitors can select the groceries that best suit the needs of their households and make an appointment to do so.

AND, we'll be able to provide programs, support and resources to help all our Waltham neighbors live healthier, more secure lives. We’ve already completed the architectural drawings, permits and demolition and we’re currently completing framing and installing the heating, ventilation and AC system! Help us bring it home! Welcome to Giving Tuesday: The 123 Felton Street Edition!

Help us turn our new home into the Healthy Waltham Community Market for our neighbors facing hunger! All gifts to our Giving Tuesday Campaign will be MATCHED by our generous campaign sponsor, BXP!

For years, Healthy Waltham has been the first line of defense against hunger for thousands of our Waltham neighbors in need. Sadly, hunger in Waltham is not going away. At pantry after pantry, the groceries we provide help ward off hunger for up to 850 Waltham families. We need a sustainable way to keep food on the table for our neighbors facing hardship. And we also want to serve them better.

So, at our new home at 123 Felton (at the corner of Felton and Williams), we’re creating the Healthy Waltham Community Market! It’s a place where families in need can come “shop” for the fresh fruits and vegetables, meat and dairy products and pantry staples that best serve their households, all in a supermarket-style setting. They’ll book appointments that suit their work and caregiving schedules – and there will be no more lining up outdoors for long periods in blistering heat or icy rain.

The Healthy Waltham Community Market will be a game changer for our most vulnerable neighbors! It will mean a more dignified, compassionate and convenient experience – and it will help us reduce food waste! BUT, it’s going to require a lot of work. Our lovely new home is a fixer-upper and needs significant renovations, in addition to industrial-sized refrigerators and freezers and equipment for loading and storage. These are substantial expenses for our small organization!

For nearly a decade, Healthy Waltham has worked to alleviate health disparities in Waltham and to improve the health outcomes of our city’s most vulnerable residents, including low-income seniors, recent immigrants and public school students, most of whom qualify for free or reduced-cost lunches. Our programs improve nutrition, encourage physical activity and increase access to healthy foods.

This Giving Tuesday, we hope you'll stand with us against hunger and in support of equal access to vital programs that promote the health and wellbeing of all Waltham families. Help Us Support the Vulnerable Families of Waltham Through the Winter!

Each week, as our staff and volunteers set up the food pantry, we are dismayed to see the lines start to form. Demand for the fresh produce and pantry staples that we provide nearly weekly to our neediest Waltham neighbors has never been higher.

 

Seniors, recent immigrants and families already living close to the poverty line continue to struggle with the pandemic’s economic fallout. Many have lost loved ones, including their family’s bread-winner. They need your help.

Last year, you helped us exceed our fundraising goal for Giving Tuesday and keep struggling Waltham families from going hungry. This year, we’re hoping to succeed again – but it won’t be easy.

While demand for our services remains alarmingly high, COVID-19, and those it has hit hardest, continue to recede from the headlines. Please help us show the underserved families of Waltham that they have not been forgotten.

 

 

 

Healthy Waltham does all it can to meet the needs of our community and ensure that every Waltham resident can feed their families this winter. Since April 2020, our monthly food pantry has been held nearly weekly; to date, 39,000 families have received two million pounds of groceries – including meat, eggs, vegetables, canned goods and toiletries – through scores of emergency pantries.

 

We are currently serving approximately 1,000 families per pantry – a number that has risen steadily since the pandemic began.

 

 

 

Despite the progress that has been made in slowing the pandemic, research states that food insecurity will be felt by families well into 2023. Healthy Waltham urgently needs your support to sustain its high-level response to this ongoing crisis.
