Harvest Hills Animal Shelter, Inc

Unfortunately I was unable to secure a “celebrity” to do this year’s Christmas Eve Shelter Sleepover. It’s a busy time of the year, so this is understandable. So, on the evening of December 24th, I will be at the shelter again, giving each of the shelter dogs all the love and attention (and treats) that I have to give.   But, all that said, one very generous A-Lister celebrity (that I can't publicly name)  DID make a very nice donation to get things started...if you're interested in knowing who it is and how much they donated, make a donation and I'll let you know in your thank you note (wink wink).

Right now, I have my eye on a certain dog who I think will love to spend Christmas Eve in the living room (constructed with sleepover funds from a previous year) with me. If he’s still at the shelter on Christmas Eve (and I certainly hope he won’t be), “Oakley” will, for the first time probably, understand what it is like to be loved and doted on. This poor old man came to the shelter as a stray, in very rough condition, and with indicators that he probably spent his entire life outside. If he’s not in a home already by Christmas Eve, he will experience the holiday like all dogs that are loved will be experiencing it. But before he gets “King Oakley” treatment, every dog at HHAS, waiting for someone to say “come home with me” will enjoy some treats and quality time out of their kennels…for play, belly rubs and love.


My goal this year is to raise $20,000! Thanks to the generosity of so many who have donated each of the previous three years, as well as new donors to this year’s campaign, I truly believe that this goal can be reached.

New Sleepover Detail:
This year and all future years, funds raised by the Christmas Eve Shelter Sleepover will do something extra special. Not only will the money directly and positively impact the animals at the shelter as it always has (i.e. construction of the living room, A/C in the dog kennels, etc.), all the money will go into a special fund that was informally started up by the  mom of 4-year-old Maxwell Bernie, who sadly drowned in May of 2016. Max loved animals, and since his death, his little piggy bank has been sitting on the counter at the shelter so that people could donate their spare change to the shelter in Max’ name. According to his mom, Max would be so thrilled to know that the Christmas Eve Shelter Sleepover will build his fund so that dogs and cats with health or behavioral problems can become more “adoptable”…whether it be because they receive a major surgery that an adopter won’t have to pay for themselves (such as ACL surgeries, amputations, eye surgeries, major dental surgeries, etc.) or for things like training vouchers for dogs; fencing installed for dogs who require a fenced in yard to keep them safe; vouchers for specialized veterinary care (such as acupuncture or drugs for anxiety); carts for amputees; or anything else that will address a problem of a dog or cat that will make them more adoptable….not to mention, this fund will always work to make the dogs and cats more comfortable and happy WHILE they wait for their forever homes.

I hope you agree that this campaign is worth a couple clicks and a donation of any amount… for the homeless animals at HHAS and in memory of Maxwell Bernie.
