Save the Dallas Harari Community Center
UPDATE: We have a gracious anonymous donor who is willing to match our donations if we’re able to raise $20K!!! Our anonymous donor has committed to adding another $20K!! Please help us get to our first goal!!! We’re about a third of the way there....let’s do this!
Our community center has survived many difficulties and in times of hardship we have come together to overcome any challenge. However, this year has taken us all by surprise and we are in urgent need of financial support to save the Dallas Harari Community Center that we have established over the last twenty years. For many people 2020 has been a painful and trying year. Our members have suffered severely due to the ongoing COVID crisis, and in turn have been unable to pay membership dues because of the loss of their jobs.
The idea of the community center originated from a need that the Harari Ethiopian diaspora identified; a connection to a home that they had to leave behind. The community center has served as a place to cultivate and teach future generations about their culture, religion, and history. We have been fortunate for so many years to celebrate countless achievements and honor our traditions at our community center. It was with joy and pride that last year we hosted the Harari Kuba Festivities at our newly renovated center. We've also opened our doors to so many of our local community members to provide them with a safe space to commemorate their special moments as well.
We are in a dire situation, which is why we're asking for help from our brothers and sisters across the world. Please help us keep our community center that we plan on passing down to future generations as a home to practice and learn about our culture and Deen.
Our goal is to raise enough money to finance our mortgage through the COVID crisis and make some needed upgrades to the building. We have borrowed $175K in an effort to rebuild the center and we are required to pay this amount back. Please help us as we strive to pay our loans back during this difficult time.
