Masjid Al Abidin Reconstruction
About Masjid Al Abdin:
As is true with most progressive and vibrant communities in the United States of America, Muslims from all corners of the globe strive diligently to preserve and enhance their religious practices, and their way of life, upon settling here. The story of the industrious, family-oriented Muslim community from Guyana and the Caribbean has often embodied the story of other immigrant communities.During the 1960s through the 1970s, from humble beginnings, small pockets of Muslim immigrants, primarily from the Guyanese Diaspora, bonded together by the commonality of their shared Islamic faith, established a house of worship that served the our needs at that time.
The realization of this effort was in the establishment of Masjid Al Abidin in Richmond Hill, Queens, NY.
Established in 1977, as a religious institution (501 (c)(3) non-profit), for the purposes of worship, and to serve as a center of learning, Masjid Al Abidin’s has stood the test of time, as major transformations occurred for over 45 years. Alhamdulillah, our community has grown ten-folds since its inception. The community now comprises of Muslims from all walks of life, encompassing every geographic location, ethnicity, culture and language.
Our fledgling community has outgrown the capacity of our present facility, as there is constant overflow of worshippers onto the parking lot and nearby streets. This is very inconvenient, especially in the wintry season and unfavorable weather, and stands non-compliant with NYC code.
Consequently, we are now forced by need, to embark on the next chapter of Masjid al Abidin. This is centered on expanding our current 45 year old facility, into a modern, state of the art multi-functional Islamic Mosque and Community Center, with much needed additional support services and programs for the elderly, the youths and worshippers.
