Raise 4 Roots
Roots Activity Learning Center (Roots ALC), or simply Roots, was founded in 1977 by Dr. Bernida Thompson. Roots is an independent African-centered private school that serves the specific needs of children of African heritage. With the philosophy that exposure is the key to intelligence, this illustrious institution has changed the lives of thousands of children by instilling a sense of pride and purpose. Since its inception, the brothers of Groove Phi Groove Social Fellowship Incorporated and the sisters of Swing Phi Swing Social Fellowship Incorporated, have been heavily involved with Roots Activity Learning Center. These members include:
Fl. J'Huti Ta Seti - District of Columbia Teachers College
Fl. Michael Wallace - District of Columbia Teachers College
Fl. Will Thomas (Hapi Ma’at) - Morehouse College
Fl. Jamille Jones (Shaka) - Morehouse College
Fl. Jon Edwards - Morehouse College
Fl. Kasna Maat Ra (Jeffrey Vinson) - Grambling State University
Fl. Jerry Davis (Yokhemi) - North Carolina Central University
Sister Vanessa Vinson - Towson University
Sister Atlantis Browder - Bowie State University
The purpose of this fundraiser is to commemorate Roots ALC, as well as, the brothers of Groove Phi Groove S.F.I. and sisters of Swing Phi Swing S.F.I., for their contributions in educating our youth in Washington, DC. The International Community Service Committee of Groove Phi Groove S.F.I. is asking for your participation in our fundraiser to raise $1,500 for Roots Activity Learning Center and a chance to win a $200 gift card from 62Kings69Queens!
