Who We Are
Ryan Sahlin is the founder of Greater Than the Game, a  non-profit dedicated to showcasing stories of triumph over adversity, redefining human capability and highlighting the positive impact of sports. By sharing positive and inspiring stories of athletes across numerous sports, Greater Than the Game demonstrates that sports are more than the games played on fields, arenas, or diamonds. Sports very often demonstrate how the human spirit can overcome obstacles and expand the horizons of participants and spectators. 


“The seeds of Greater Than the Game were sewn throughout my childhood,” Sahlin said.  “I was born with Cerebral Palsy, a neuromuscular condition that causes me to have  low and high  muscle tone and motor and balance issues.  Growing up, I loved sports and was always told by my parents to never let someone tell me that I couldn’t do something because I wore braces. They taught me that I could try anything, I just might need some help. This positive attitude had a profound impact on my life.” He continued,  “Many people, handicaped or able bodied, are consumed with their limitations. I want to use Greater Than the Game as a vehicle to tell stories of athletes who have overcome great adversity and show others that they too can overcome obstacles to achieve more than they ever thought possible.”  


How will donations be spent:

The money Greater Than the Game raises will go towards producing and disseminating inspirational stories to educate and motivate athletes and society at large.  These stories can take the form of podcasts, videos or articles. Funds will also support our efforts to provide equipment for challenged people so they can pursue their dreams and become greater than the game. All of this contributes to our mission to change the views of athletes and the public over what people with challenges can achieve.
