Bucknell Visiting Professors Healthcare Fund
The Bucknell administration has declined to extend healthcare benefits for these vulnerable members of our community. They have even declined to match funds raised by this campaign. If you think they should act, please sign our petition urging them to do so. In the meantime, it's up to all of us: Bucknell faculty, staff, students and alumni.
Bucknell, let's do the right thing! No one should lose healthcare in the midst of a healthcare crisis. Join us to keep these members of our community safe. Any donation will help make an impact.
We estimate that to provide COBRA insurance for these 12 VAPs and their families for two months (June and July) will cost at most $60,000. To start, we're hoping to collect just $20,000.
Thank you in advance for your tax-deductible contribution to the Bucknell Visiting Assistant Professor Healthcare Fund at Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way. Thank you for keeping all members of our community safe in the midst of this health crisis.
-----
The Bucknell Visiting Assistant Professor Healthcare Fund was established in May of 2020 through a partnership between the Greater Susquehanna Valley United Way and faculty at Bucknell University. The fund’s initial purpose is to support the COBRA healthcare coverage of visiting professors of Bucknell University during the Summer of 2020 to ensure continuity of healthcare during this health crisis.
A small committee consisting of Bucknell faculty and staff will fundraise and make strategic decisions related to the fund, in consultation with United Way. Potential beneficiaries of the fund will be notified by the committee to apply for funding. Applications will be processed by United Way staff and all bills will be paid directly. If funds remain after any visiting professors request assistance for healthcare coverage, the remainder of the funds will be donated to GSVUW which is on the frontlines of providing aid to all who need it in the Susquehanna Valley especially now during the health crisis.
