Granite Falls Backpack Program
The Granite Falls Backpack Program sends food home over the weekend with some of the kiddos that rely on "free breakfast and lunch". This program helps students who rely on school meals throughout the week and need that continued meal support over the weekend. Students are sent home with a small backpack of food on Friday. The hope is that this food will help “replace” the breakfast/lunch they usually get at school. Each bag typically has: a bag of cereal, 2 oatmeal packets, two lunches, an extra meal, two snacks, and a fruit/vegetable. If you are interested in “sponsoring” a bag (roughly $25 per month) or helping with the needs of the kiddos in this community please contact me (Robynn B!)
Financial donations can be made directly to the Community Coalition OR through this GoFundMe. If you would rather donate items, here are some ideas:
BREAKFAST: Cereal, oatmeal, cereal bars, peanut butter
LUNCH: mac and cheese, spaghettios, ravioli, baked beans, refried beans, boxed rice or pasta mixes, tuna and other canned meat, hamburger helper, etc.
SNACKS: granola bars, ritz, saltines, cheese crackers, peanut butter crackers, trailmix bars, etc.
FRUIT/VEGETABLES: canned green beans or canned corn, cups/cans of fruit, or fresh fruit (apples, oranges, bananas)
NON-FOOD ITEMS: can openers, cases of bottled water, capri-sun, personal hygeine items (deoderant, shampoo/conditioner, body wash, face wash, toilet paper, feminine hygeine products, toothbrushes, and toothpaste).
