Warmth of the Star for Veterans
Hello. My name is Sandra Berkey. I am the Worthy Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of Pennsylvania, Order of the Eastern Star for 2018-2019. We are the largest Masonic body of which both women and men are members. We are a charitable organization.
Each year the new Worthy Grand Matron chooses a special charitable project. Mine is titled “Warmth of the Star for Veterans”. I would like to tell you what made me create this special project. A few years ago, at a special meeting in my honor, I asked all who attended to bring a new piece of clothing, i.e. sweatpants, sweatshirts, t-shirts and socks to be delivered to a local Veterans home.
A few weeks after the event one of our members who helped with the delivery told me of the reaction from the home that surprised even him. They were so excited to get NEW clothes, as most of the donations received are used clothes that will even have holes in them.
There was my purpose! These are men and women who have served our country so that we may have the freedoms we so often enjoy and take for granted. They deserve better than tattered used clothing.
This is my Goal – to collect new clothing to be distributed to the Veteran’s homes in the state of PA. To create back packs of essentials like a blanket, sweatshirt, sweatpants, socks and toiletries to the Veteran’s hospitals and food kitchens for our homeless veterans.
All proceeds received through this GoFundMe page will go directly to the purchase of the clothing, backpacks and essentials to be distributed throughout the state of Pennsylvania. No funds will be used for administrative purposes as we are a 501-c 3 organization.
