Bring Rochester STEM Team to Fencing Camp!
At the 2019 Junior Olympic Championships, we met these amazing athletes and their coach! Here's a great story about them.
Rochester STEM academy fencing team
Coach Corlis Hicks started the Rochester STEM Academy fencing team in 2015. In 2019, Rochester STEM fencers qualified for both Junior Olympics and USA Fencing National Championships and Coach Hicks was selected as the High School Coach of the Year by USA Fencing.
Every summer at Golden Gate Fencing Center, we have a pre-season camp with a special guest coach. This summer our guest coach is Jimmy Moody, a True Sport ambassador - more about True Sport here https://truesport.org
Our coaches tell us that sport is about community and we want to expand ours to include the Rochester STEM Fencing team. We know that we'd learn from them and they would learn from us and we'd get to know each other better. Fencing and learning together would be an amazing experience for all of us. Coach Hicks and our coaches will learn from each other as well. They're already planning that. Beyond fencing, our friendships will be part of our memories of camp.
Now, we need your help. We're raising money to cover airfare and accommodation for 9 Rochester STEM fencers, Coach Hicks, her assistant, and a chaperone to come to our camp. All funds that we raise will be used to cover the Rochester STEM fencers' costs since our coaches have generously donated camp scholarships for the fencers - thanks, coaches!
Part of the True Sport mission statement is "...to equip young athletes with the resources to build life skills and core values for success on and off the field." Along with our Rochester STEM friends, we want to be those athletes and someday, those leaders.
Thanks in advance for your contribution to to make our plan a reality.
