Coins for Convents and Monasteries© was created so that no convent or monastery is forced to shut down due to insufficient funds, and no religious brother or sister is forced to leave the life to which God has called them. Despite having large communities of religious brothers and sisters, many Catholic convents and monasteries are forced to close due to insufficient funding, unable to pay their monthly bills or maintain their facilities.
Why: There are a many of Catholic organizations and charities that help erase student loan debt for Catholics seeking to enter religious life. However, there are very few organizations and charities that provide financial assistance to struggling convents and monasteries that are unable to keep their doors open due to insufficient funds to pay for electricity, water, heating, building maintenance, and property taxes. Coins for Convents© bridges this gap by enabling struggling Catholic convents and monasteries to apply for grants to cover these ministry-sustaining necessities.
How: The funds donated to Coins for Convents© are given to convents and monasteries facing a significant or imminent risk of closure or eviction due to insufficient funds. Monasteries and convents apply for funds based on the urgency of their request and their area of greatest need. All convents and monasteries within the United States and its territories are welcome to apply.
