It's that time of the year again. Time to make sure I feel at least as old as I am. This year's format is similar to last year, especially in that I'll be raising money for a great cause again. The charity I picked this year is equally close to my heart. As a software developer, I absolutely love getting to work on software every day. I want to provide others with the same opportunities I had. Women, especially, are underrepresented in software engineering. Not only that, but the trend is going in the wrong direction! We can help fix that!

On August 7th, for my 39th birthday, I plan to ride 39 miles (in my driveway, on a trainer) and run 39 km (39-1km loops around my neighborhood) to raise money for Girls Who Code. For every loop I complete I'll be donating $10 and I'd love for you guys to donate any amount you can as well! Last year Dr. Kate Biberdorf and I raised over $8K, can we do it again?!?!

Girls Who Code is on a mission to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does. Our donations to Girls Who Code will help educate and equip girls to pursue opportunities in tech!

At Collabera, our Women's Leadership Advisory Board (WLAB) is truly passionate in helping end the gender gap in the workforce and empower the females in the communities around us. To this day, women in the workforce, specifically in STEM related roles, are underrepresented. Whether it's due to financial reasoning's, lack of educational resources, or discouragement from their own peers, it's our mission to help women become leaders in STEM related fields.  In honor of Women's Equality Day, our WLAB chose to help raise donations for Girls Who Code. 

Girls Who Code is a non-profit organization who's mission is to close the gender gap in technology and to change the image of what a programmer looks like and does.  Girls Who Code is an organization that values diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential to our mission.  They acknowledge that historical and institutional barriers—particularly racial bias and discrimination—play a role in the widening gender gap in computer science and who has access to opportunities in these fields. Girls Who Code focuses their work not only on gender diversity but also on young women who are historically underrepresented in computer science fields, specifically girls who:
- Come from underrepresented minority groups, including African American/Black, Hispanic or Latina, Bi/ Multiracial, Native American/Alaskan, and     Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander;
- Come from low-income backgrounds, specifically free and/or reduced lunch eligible

SINET IMPACT Award honoring Phil J. Venables of Goldman Sachs and Girls who Code

Robert and Heather Rodriguez challenge the SINET Community to match our 10K gift to Girls who Code in honor of the 2019 SINET Impact Award Winner,  Phil J. Venables of Goldman Sachs.
The SINET Impact Award is given annually to an individual that has lead change and made an impact on the Cybersecurity community.  


The SINET Impact Award is Two-fold 
1. To honor someone who has made a significant impact on the Cybersecurity community.

2. To pay it forward and raise money within the SINET Community to impact the charity of the recipients choice.  Mr Venables has chosen Girls who Code to receive the donations.


Our Goal is to raise 20K 
Robert and Heather Rodriguez  have contributed 10K and challenge the SINET Community to help us honor the Mr Venables by donating to the charity of his choice - Girls who Code.

All donations will go directly to Girls who Code in honor of Mr. Venables via this Go Fund Me campaign.

14 hours after launching this campaign, we have exceeded our goal and raised $1300. Very impressive and a big thank you to all of the generous supporters. We have updated the goal to $2000, so let's keep the momentum going and raise even money for Girls Who Code!

BACKSTORY: WHAT'S THE PURPOSE OF THIS FUNDRAISER?

I have very strange coworkers who want to shave my head!

So I told them if we could raise at least $1000 for Girls Who Code  by 06/21/2018, I would have somebody shave my head in the break room at my office.

I think Girls Who Code is a great organization that helps inspire, motivate, and train young women who want to enter the tech sector. We're software developers, and we would like to help close the gender gap in technology.
