I am Dong Ok Kim, a freshman at Swarthmore College. My prospective majors are Chemistry and Peace & Conflict studies, but I am mostly interested in Public Health.

I have been given an amazing opportunity to be a part of the Ghana Health and Education Initiative (GHEI) team this summer in Humjibre, Ghana. I will be serving for a Ghanaian community for 17 days. I am eager to work for GHEI as I share many of the same core values about development work.

GHEI was founded in 2001 with the goal to improve health and education in this Ghanaian community. It prioritizes engagement of the local people. For more than 15 years, GHEI has improved community health conditions by focusing on Malaria Prevention, Sexual & Reproductive Health, and Health Trainings. Its education programs vary from general youth and early childhood literacy education to a community library and scholarships for higher education. 

As a part of GHEI Summer Serve and Learn, I will be working with the local people to improve GHEI programs, including malaria prevention, maternal health and nutrition, and health and nutrition for children under 5. 

In order to participate GHEI SSL, I have to meet a fundraising requirement of $1,350. 100% of the money raised through my page will go directly to GHEI organization and all the donations are tax deductible.
