My name is Brittney Skiles and I have been coaching cross country and track and field since 2012. I did my college running at Columbus State University, competing as a scholarship athlete in both cross country and track. I was Runner of the Year two years in a row for the Peach Belt Conference and was a Peach Belt Conference Champion. After college, I coached the women's cross-country team at Georgia Southwestern for four years. Then, I moved into the Georgia public education system. I currently hold an M.Ed. in Health & Physical Education and a B.S. in Exercise Science from Columbus State University. I also hold a B.S. in Health & Physical Education from Georgia Southwestern State University. I grew up near Leesburg, Georgia on a farm riding horses and barrel racing, but now I devote most of my time to coaching and helping the youth.
This is my second year coaching the middle and high school cross country and track and field teams at Furlow Charter School and the teams are steadily growing. For the first time last year, we had a full middle school team and now this year we have full middle and high school track and field teams. Our girls middle school track team won their first invite at the Frank Davison Invitational and we are looking to improve even more for both, boys and girls teams. We had several region champions last year for our high school team and a 5th place finish on the girls side in the 3200m at the state championships. This season our team has grown significantly and we are looking to have more state qualifiers.
These athletes work hard on and off the field and most importantly, they have the best attitudes. They have great sportsmanship and encourage other team members. I have been told by many coaches how respectful the team is to adults and their peers.
Where is your money going? Our team is steadily growing and evolving, so your contribution helps fund our meets, gear, snacks, drinks, and equipment. We are extremely grateful for any amount contributed to help fund Furlow Charter’s Track and Field team!
