Our foster cat Toothless is fighting a severe kidney infection in emergency ICU care.
On Thursday, one of our long-term foster cats, Toothless, suddenly became critically ill.
At first we believed she might have a simple urinary infection. But when her condition rapidly worsened, she had to be rushed to the emergency veterinary hospital.
The diagnosis turned out to be far more serious: a severe kidney infection requiring intensive care.
When situations like this happen, rescues face a terrible decision. Waiting to see if funds are available can cost precious time and sometimes an animal’s life.
So we made the decision every rescue hopes they never have to make.
We approved treatment immediately and hoped we could figure out the cost afterward.
Toothless was admitted to the ICU and has now required multiple nights of hospitalization, blood-work, medication, and the placement of a feeding tube to keep her nourished while she fights the infection.
So far the emergency care costs are:
- $200 – ER intake and triage
- $4,000 – ICU care, diagnostics, hospitalization, medication (Thursday night)
- $3,500 – hospitalization, blood-work, and feeding tube placement (Friday night)
- $1,500 – continued hospitalization, blood-work, and medication (Saturday night)
Total emergency care so far: $9,200
Full Hearts Cat Rescue is a volunteer-run rescue, and much of our work is funded directly out of pocket. Bills like this are simply beyond what we can sustain alone.
But saying no to treatment would have meant giving up on Toothless.
We’re asking our community for help covering these emergency medical costs so that Toothless can continue receiving the care she needs.
Even small donations help.
If 200 people give $20, we can cover nearly half the bill.
We will continue posting updates about Toothless and her recovery as we learn more.
Thank you for helping us give her a chance.
