Save the Wadsworth Scout House
The Wadsworth Scout House needs your help. Wadsworth residents and many others are sure to have memories of visiting the Girl Scout House located on the north end of Memorial Park. Built around 1963 by a lease agreement with Girl Scouts and the City of Wadsworth, the house has been the heart of Wadsworth Girl Scouts ever since. When Girl Scouts decided to not renew their lease with the City of Wadsworth when it ended due to restructuring, the City had planned on tearing the building down. Knowing how much this place means to our community and to us, our local Girl Scout District formed a committee and worked with the City to keep our beloved house open for future troops and the community to use. Our agreement with the City is that we as "The Wadsworth House Committee" fund the building entirely on our own. Normally we have zero issues doing this with the many rentals we book every year. While funds were not abundant, they were enough for us to pay the bills and keep the building operational. Last year we did a "Raise the Roof" fundraiser to replace the roof and floor. Both were in desperate need of a full replacement. The community came together and raised the funds needed to give the Scout House a much needed face lift. Repairs were fully completed in January and we were so excited to show off how beautiful our new and improved house looked! Then Covid-19 hit and we were forced by the Ohio Stay at Home Order to shut the Scout House down completely. It has been devastating to say the least. Today, we are on the brink of losing our Scout House. Our funds have been depleted and as it stands right now we do not have the money needed to get through the winter. We need the community's help to keep our Scout House open and ready for when this pandemic is over. We can then resume our normal activities and the Scout House will be booked every weekend again for camp outs, birthday parties, graduations, bridal, baby showers etc. Our schools use the Scout House for their Thanksgiving Day celebrations and other events. Our Girl Scouts will be heartbroken if we lose our Scout House that we use for meetings and events like our annual Twilight Camp. How horrible will it be if our kindergarten and first grade Daisy troops are not able to experience their first overnight camp close to home. We are asking our community to come together and save our Scout House so it can be enjoyed for future generations. We have partnered once again with the Friends of Wadsworth Trails for this fundraiser. Please give what you can to help Save our Scout House. - Thank you every penny will mean so much!
