Friends of Morocco can help you make a difference today with well targeted High Atlas earthquake recovery, reconstruction and resettlement. 100% of your tax-free donation will go directly to high-impact organizations working in the most affected towns and villages near the epicenter.
In the first two months, we raised over $24,000 primarily for rescue and relief operations. We transferred funds to organizations providing food, water and thousands of meals by truck, motorcycle, donkey, and helicopter and providing cooking equipment and fuel, shelter, and vital supplies.
Our experienced members and leadership are primarily returned Morocco Peace Corps Volunteers, including recent returnees, and their Moroccan counterparts and trusted allies. We are well networked with local volunteers and volunteer organizations on the ground in the High Atlas region. We are now gap filling with longer term recovery and sustainable reconstruction in marginalized communities that need the greatest assistance with high impact projects.
We work with a number of organizations like the High Atlas Foundation, Amal, the Maghreb Center, and Peace Corps, all of which have a presence in Morocco. We also work with Moroccan organizations on the ground with operations organized out of Marrakech (for Asni, Imlil, etc.) and Agadir (for Taroundant, Imintanoute, etc.), with networks and regular contact in the affected areas. For downstream projects we will engage in discussions of shifting local needs involving members of the most affected local communities.
We are gender equitable, environmentally sustainable, socially aware, economically entrepreneurial, and ethically rigorous in everything we do, with a focus on respecting Moroccan customs and culture and taking care of the most marginalized communities and individuals including children, the elderly, and disabled persons.
Active since 1988, Friends of Morocco seeks to reunite Americans with Morocco experience and Moroccans in America; improve the awareness of Americans regarding the culture, needs, and achievements of Moroccans; keep members and others current on events in Morocco; support projects of the U.S. Peace Corps and private charitable organizations in Morocco; organize and implement development education and outreach activities; and fund and support charitable projects and scholarship on Morocco and Moroccans.
The POCs for this earthquake recovery, reconstruction and resettlement project are Morocco RPCVs William Lawrence, Megan McDonell, and FOM president Tim Resch. Feel free to reach out for more information. Let’s keep doing this right!
