Friends of Butte Creek

Want to join us in making a difference? Butte Creek salmon have been decimated the last couple years with less than 30 spawning fish identified in 2024. 2023 was only slightly better with around 50 fish. Salmon need your help! 

Friends of Butte Creek (FBC) acquired a water right that is dedicated to instream flow for the protection of aquatic resources in Butte Creek in perpetuity. The water is protected under California Fish and Wildlife code 1707. FBC is establishing the Flow Fund to cover the expenses to maintain this first water right for fish on Butte Creek. In addition, the Flow fund will help support activities to acquire more water rights for fish.  Acquiring water through purchase and or lease will aid the survival of these endangered salmon.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 to to keep the water flowing forever. We are short of our goal and need to raise another $7,000. Thanks in advance for your contribution to this cause that means so much to the salmon!

Friends of Butte Creek is stepping up our efforts to protect our dwindling salmon run by purchasing and installing signs to remind users to pick up their trash and to inform anglers of the fishing season details. Casual visitors often don't realize the importance of keeping our waterways clean and following the California Department of Fish and Wildlife fishing regulations.
