This is Penelope, my sweet 4.5-month-old foster puppy. She’s a lovable doodle mix with a playful spirit and the gentlest heart. Unfortunately, Penelope has been through more than any puppy should have to endure.

About two months ago, she broke her front right radius. While the break itself has healed, it occurred so close to her growth plate that the bone has stopped growing. Meanwhile, her ulna — the other bone in her foreleg — is still growing. This uneven growth is causing her leg to bend unnaturally, making it difficult and painful for her to walk. Even worse, if her ulna keeps growing, it could eventually pull her radius completely out of the elbow joint, leaving her permanently disabled and in constant pain.

We've consulted with multiple orthopedic specialists, and heartbreakingly, the only viable option is amputation. Her leg is already non-functional and will only become more painful over time. Surgery is the kindest path forward to give her a pain-free life where she can run and play like any puppy should.

All funds raised will go directly toward Penelope’s surgery and recovery. If we are lucky enough to receive extra donations, every penny will go to Fraternity of the 4 Paws, the rescue group that cares for Penelope and many other fosters in need of medical help, safety, and love.
