Federal Memorandum Threatens The Learning Lab!
This year, the federal government has worked to dismantle Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) endeavors throughout the country. Labeling DEI as discrimination, the administration is working to terminate any activities, expenditures, programs, and services that advance diversity, equity, and inclusion. Through executive orders and federal memorandums, the White House has ordered government agencies to eliminate these initiatives and proposed a pause for all federal financial assistance and supporting activities.
In addition, the administration is working to dismantle the Department of Education, risking academic success for students throughout the country. The potential loss of federal funding and oversight will impact low-income students the most, losing direct access to Title 1 grants and special education funding. These efforts by the federal government to disassemble framework for fair treatment impact thousands of organizations and individuals nationwide. FAME, Inc. is no exception.
Created by the DuPont company in 1976, FAME, Inc. has a longstanding history of connecting students with STEM through academic and enrichment programming. Advanced, one-of-a-kind, hands-on curricula prepare students, fueling the workforce locally and globally. In this time, FAME, Inc. has served as a community pillar for Inspiring Career Confidence and launching leaders into STEM.
Moreover, in 2024, the organization began construction on The Learning Lab: A Destination for Academics, Workforce Development, and Innovation. This world-renowned innovation center will transform how students learn, providing a space to address problems through creative solutions using cutting-edge technology and advanced academic study.
For nearly 50 years, FAME, Inc.’s mission has been to prepare and motivate students in grades K–12, with a specific focus on girls and other underrepresented minorities, to complete a college degree and/or seek a STEM career or other related pathways. We are determined, now more than ever, to fulfill this mission. Through so much uncertainty, one thing remains clear: our students need our support.
As the administration’s efforts continue, we need your help. These endeavors have put our funding at risk. Your support will ensure students in and around Delaware have access to diverse, high-quality educational programming even as the federal government works to dismantle these systems. Together, we can secure our future for the next generation.
